Recording the Acoustic Guitar
| | | For the musicianPut on a new set of strings a couple of days before. For the engineerRoom acoustics play a large role in the sound of the guitar, so experiment by moving the guitar around the room. Mic the guitar 15 to 60 cm from the end of the fingerboard. Avoid placing microphones immediately in front of the sound hole at the front, as this hole serves as a bassport that resonates at lower frequencies (80 to 100 mHz). In general, placing a mic behind the bridge reduces boom and accentuates mid-range producing a clean, woody sound. Experiment, and search for the ‘sweet’ spot in this area.
